My dear friend Jane gave me a gift certificate to Big Lots for my birthday -- it's always such fun to wander around picking and choosing. As a matter of fact, I must admit, I hadn't been in any of the Big Lots around here so it was a special treat. I looked at candles, towels, tablecloths, glasses, garden items, interesting food items and "spent" that gift certificate over and over. Three times I circled the store ... but kept ending back at the same isle... I ended up leaving with... you guessed it!
Gollum Dishes! Oh, I'm so easily influenced! *sigh* -- Thanks Jane - for a wonderful gift and your luncheon invitation's in the mail - so you'll get the chance to see and enjoy them too! They'll be making an appearance in an upcomong tablescape for my second "Granny" luncheon for several of us grandmothers at my church. We have some new grandmothers added to our list and some new grandchildren to celebrate as well.
I found this silver plated coffee server at a local antique and thrift store. I have seen this same sort of server on several tables for tablescaping. She needs a bit of polish, but I think will make an elegant presentation. I don't know much about these particular pieces - perhaps some of you could give me an idea of the age and history of these particular servers.
I was attracted to the intricate design at the neck and handle.
Check out these sexy legs too!
A couple of weeks ago I found this English pottery toast rack and thought it would be great fun to use to make up a breakfast tray when my daughter in law Megan and two granddaughters come for a visit in September. I would love to pamper them with breakfast in bed! I'll be on the look out for one of those wicker breakfast trays - won't this be fun for toast, juice and coffee? Well, milk for Stella Grace, I suppose.
This is the rose design on each end. I guess you can tell if you follow my blog how much I love roses.
This is the marking on the bottom.
This matches my favorite tea pot as well. I can also "see" toast and tea.
My final "treasure" is one I found about 6 weeks ago. I loved this set of china napkin rings with such dainly flowers. I'll be using these in an upcoming tablescape as well.
The pink flower had a nic on the lower left petal -- an easy fix with pink nail polish. Can't wait to set my table with these pretty "treasures" I hope that you've had some treasure filled days as well.
See ya!
I got 2 sets of Gollum dishes this weekend!!! I love your other finds too - the sexy legged coffee server, tea pot and the gorgeous napkin rings!!! Thanks for sharing! :D Jewel
ReplyDeleteYou will so enjoy your Gollum dishes. I love mine and use them constantly. Your silver coffee carafe is lovely. I don't know how long they have been making them, but I gave my daughter one about 25 yrs. ago, so I know they were popular then. Yours is lovely. YOur beautiful rose toast stand and the napkin rings are just gorgeous. I really love everything. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteI Martha! Oh, congratulations on your gift certificate and you bought the Gollum dishes! I've been in Big Lots a few times and keep looking at them, but I already have a set of olden white ones and some cream ones and just can't justify buying these! Oh, I love them! But I don't think I have anywhere to put them! The coffee server is beautiful! The toast holder and those little napkin rings are so lovely! Wish I could have shopping with you!
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,

Hi Martha, it looks as if you have found some real treasures, isn't it fun when you find the perfect pieces for your home at such great prices. I would like to thank you for coming over to Martys Met.Monday to see my guest posting. I really appreciate you kind words. Hugs Kathysue
ReplyDeleteHi Martha,
ReplyDeleteThose white dishes are going to look perfectly pretty in soooo many upcoming tablescapes. White works with all the shades roses bloom in, doesn't it?
I like the coffee server a lot! I picked up one like it at an estate sale. It polished up beautifully, and I've actually used it for serving coffee refills during brunch.
Have a great week!
Bill
Love those napkin rings. So pretty and delicate.
ReplyDeleteYour coffee server and your napkin rings are so pretty! Can't wait to see your tablescape with them. I bought the Gollum dishes at an outlet store before Gollum got hers, and I use them all of the time. laurie
