This is a post from last week, but it sure seems to fit right in!
Do you remember the song that Julie Andrews sings in "Sound of Music" about her favorite things? "Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes"....well just change the lyrics to "Girls in smocked dresses" for me. I love little smocked dresses -- especially for spring! So with four little grandgirls ages 3 yrs to 9 months....I certainly have had fun on my "smock hunt"!
These two sweet little blue dresses are being sent to Stella (3 yrs.) and her sister Molly (9 mos.) next week.
Little sister dress.
Big sister dress.
My grandmother used to send matching dresses to my sister and me when we were little -- I still remember the excitement of opening a package from Granny and Poppy!
These are the dresses I found for the twins...Keelyn and Kendall (19 mos.)
I just love the little birds and birdhouses for Spring!
Yes, I'm a sucker for smocking! *sigh*
Martha, the dresses are darling!! I am getting "back" into smocking for my Grandmother's "Hope Chest"!! I smocked many dresses for my daughter who is now almost 29!!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE those. I looked for them for my four daughters too and was thrilled when I found them. I remember back when there were few stores around and Sears carried a line of little dresses with lots of smocking. Especially when they have tiny birdies on them..sooo sweet.
ReplyDeleteHUGS!
Beautiful dresses! I smocked and made my daughter's dresses when they were little. I haven't smocked in a long time ... it is very relaxing to me.
ReplyDeleteThanks for bringing back wonderful memories!
Blessings,
Donna
You should be here in the South, Martha. Everyone is CRAZY for smocking here. Some girls wear their smocked-frocks till they almost have boobs. LOL And they wear them with a HUGE bow in their hair...and I've seen a few little boys with smocked white shirts...the dresses are GORGEOUS, BTW!
ReplyDeleteHi Martha,
ReplyDeleteThese are just precious! I had two boys, so no smocking for me...however, there's always hope for a litte granddaughter or two!!! Thanks for sharing!

Hi, Thanks for stopping to visit me so often! I really enjoy hearing from you in your comments. I adore smocking! Dresses! I was smocking until I had surgery. Love these dresses! I'm still not visiting as much as I still recovering. I am trying to follow my dreams and do some things I want! Still got a long way to go, but enjoying Te a Time Tuesday. I am exhausted after. lol I have dishes covering my dining table. Yes, they are clean, lol But where to put them as I bought so many new ones. lol
ReplyDeleteDarling, darling dresses!
ReplyDeleteI've never smocked, but sure like the look.
Happy week-end!

I learned how to smock when I was pregnant with my middle son. Third child was a boy as well, so I didn't get to smock for long. I need to take it up again now that I have two granddaughters.
ReplyDeleteLove the dresses. When I was pregnant with Kat (now 30)...I smocked like a fool. I loved it. I still have her little dresses stored in my cedar chest for her daughter one day. I knew we were kindred spirits...wow!
ReplyDeleteI dont have any children but I have lots of nieces. I was always the "Fav" aunt as I loved smocking on dresses and have bought my share of them. Now all the girls have turned into women and have their own little girls, and the dresses are still being bought. But not for long as youngest girl has found Hannah Montana to be her style. These dresses are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThey're so darling! I love little girls dressed in these dresses!!! Lucky granddaughters to have you!!!
ReplyDeleteThese little dresses are just darling.
ReplyDeleteOh, they are adorable! I love smocking too! laurie
ReplyDeleteWow! These are beautiful! I always loved smocking, but never learned how to do it! Remember Polly Flinders dresses? I bought a lot of those for my two daughters. They were smocked.
ReplyDeleteKatherine
I love smocking too. My mom always used to buy Polly Flinders and Nannette used to make them too.
ReplyDeleteThe dresses are adorable...lucky gkids!
Martha, I've been out of town. I just got back, and I REALLY wanted this beautiful post to be linked to Fav. Things Sat., so I got it linked up. Thank you so much for joining the party! laurie
ReplyDeleteOh, those dresses are so precious. Reminds me when my daughter was a little one. When I get a granddaughter, she's going to be a real diva.
ReplyDeleteMartha, these are exquisite! I've never done smocking, but have always admired the work of others. You are very talented. I know what kind of skill and patience this hand work takes. Thanks for sharing these with us.
ReplyDeleteTheres nothing sweeter on baby apparel than smocking. I make babies and rarely do I find any smocked dresses for them. I fear smocking is becoming a thing of the past which is a such a shame.

Those are so adorable!! I love smocking. My Mom made several smocked dresses for me when I was a little girl. I got a few for my daughter but they were hard to find. Your's are just wonderful, they will look so darling in them. Cindy
ReplyDeleteI used to love to find dresses with smocking for my daughter. Do you remember Polly Phlender dresses. Oh, I loved them! Your grandaughers are going to be so sweet in them!
ReplyDeleteThey are so pretty! I have always loved smocking. My Mother could smock, but I never learned how. Thanks for sharing those with us.
ReplyDeleteHi Martha! These precious dresses take me back- my sister in law got me into Polly Flinders back in the day (one of your other commenters mentioned PF too!) We both had 2 girls about the same ages- nearly 30 years ago! They are timeless- wish I would have kept some of them- if I get any grandgirls I may have to learn how to do it! (I think my son had a smocked baby gown or two too!)
ReplyDeleteOh, those are the kind of dresses I would adore to buy for baby Zoe! You are so talented. I also appreciate you stopping by to see our informal tablescape (a new one Thurs. )Glad I found your blog. -- Jane F.
ReplyDeleteI love smocking too! Your granddaughters are so lucky that you think of them, and their Moms are going to go crazy over these dresses! You are a great Grandma!
