It's time for Tablescape Thursday again! This is the day we get to visit lots of our blogging friends to see what they've set on their table this week. Thanks to our wonderful hostess, Susan of "Between Naps on the Porch". This past weekend my husband's college roommate and his wife stopped by for lunch on their way from Williamsburg to Washington D.C. They've just moved back into the area and it was great to visit and catch up again. I was looking for a simple tablesetting...nothing too fancy but still welcoming. So I decided to use my black and white toile. The black and white combination seems to be "The little black dress" of tablescapes.
Welcome to our toile luncheon table.
Of course, there's a place set just for you!
With the black and white placemats, I decided to use my black iron treble clef flatware. Very heavy and substantial feeling flatware. And not too fancy.
Black and white checked cloth napkins with white ceramic napkin rings.
A pop of color comes from the paper napkins in the glasses.
An overview of the table.
Pressed glass stems used for shrimp cocktails.
The black and white toile salad plates came from Marshall's about a year ago are layered over the white Gollum dishes from Big Lots last summer.
I was able to use the same flowers from last weeks tropical table. I pulled out the blue and orange flowers and arranged the pink, purple, green and yellow ones into smaller containers, mixed with tealights and set on a cake stand.
A tabletop view.
One last look at our toile table. It seems that toile is either something you love or hate. I've loved it long before I even knew what it was called. My grandmother had a toile bedspread in her guest bedroom when I was a young child and I was enchanted by the "old fashioned" people. It wasn't until years later that I realized that fabric was toile.
Be sure to visit Susan this week at "Between Naps on the Porch" where you'll find many, many tabletop inspirations.
See ya!

Beautiful, Martha. I'm at work on a black and white table myself. Hope to have it photographed to share by Thursday. You are way ahead of me!

ReplyDeleteSo beautiful, Martha! There is something so elegant about black and white....Christine
ReplyDeleteMy Niece would have a fit over this one. She is all about toile....I sent her a link so she could look it over. She and hubby are at seminary....on a fixed budget...and she comes up with some of the cutest arrangements of furnishings, et al. This one is very elegant. Love it...as always.
ReplyDeleteYour table is just gorgeous! I so love toile! Don't have a lot of it. Buy toile fabric and machine embroidery designs whenever I see them. Want to do a toile bedroom and bathroom.
ReplyDeleteI also love check fabric with it.
Noticed your huntboard/sideboard in one of the pics to rightside and behind your table---a beautiful piece.
Hi Martha! I love seeing your pretty toile table!! Those pretty bird plates are perfect. I'm sure your guests were thrilled to be treated to such a beautiful table! :)
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,

ReplyDeleteI love a classic toile mixed with a gingham check, so you have nailed it for me! The added pop of color in your florals was exactly the right touch, too. I've seen silverware like this before- who is it made by? I really like it. Thank you for your visit and nice comment, Martha.

So pretty, Martha. I'm not normally a toile kinda guy, but the black really speaks to me! You probably already know, but your pressed glass sherbets are "Park Lane" by Colony. I use one when I eat ice cream (far too often)!

I really like this black and white theme-so pretty. Toile can really be dressed up or down, can't it.
ReplyDeleteLOVE black and white toile!!! Last year I started collecting the Royal Doulton Provence Noir dinnerwear because I found them in an outlet. Now the outlet left town and I have to drive over an hour to the nearest outlet. (I refuse to pay full price for it). Anyway, I am looking forward to completing my set. Once I do I will definitely be doing a tablescape on my blog with it. Thanks for stopping by. I am having fun checking out your blog too. Happy New Year!
