Welcome to my Mid-Atlantic Mid-Century tablescape. |
As you can see, there are quite a few dishes on my table this week. |
....until I found these at my local Goodwill a couple of weeks ago. |
And I knew right away that these were the perfect Mid-Century dishes to go with the flatware because..... |
My mother had this very same pattern when I was a child! |
As soon as I saw them I had a flood of nostalgia. I don't remember having a particular fondness for this pattern, but they did bring me such a warm feeling of happiness from my childhood. |
So how about you.....did you also remember these from someone in your family? |
As you can see, this was a rather large collection. I have no idea where ours went. I suspect that they didn't make the cut for one of our family moves in my childhood. |
And overview of the table. I really thought they were such a great find for the autumn harvest season. |
Since there were several more saucers than cups, I enjoy using them for holding candles to "match" the dishes. |
I figured this style of salt and pepper shakers are pretty classic. It seems to me they could certainly be something set on a Mid-Century table. |
...and to think, it all started with a box of flatware from a friend. |
The pattern is "Golden Wheat" and as you can see was made in the USA (something we just don't see very often these days.) |
I'm joining Susan at http://betweennapsontheporch.net/a-christmas-table-setting-inspired-by-nature-themed-dishware/" this week.

Hi Martha! Glad to see your post! Your table is so lovely. How nice for your friend to give you the flatware. I love those dishes and my aunt had those dishes. We'd eat off them each time we'd go over and she also had those corn serving pieces! You always set a lovely table and my best Thanksgiving wishes to you and your family.
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Yes! I do remember that pattern, Martha. My mother didn't have the dishes, but one of my friends' mothers must have, because it is very familiar to me. You did a lovely job setting a harvest table with it!
ReplyDeleteThose dishes and teak handled flatware bring back memories...we had the same ones growing up!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week, Martha.
I remember the golden wheat from my mom's house. It was one of the many sets she had. Your harvest table is lovely as always. Glad to see your handiwork.
ReplyDeleteA good deal is putting it mildly. Even if you use those dishes only once, it will be well worth it! Keeping your table simple works for me. Food should be the star on Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteYes, my SIL had this very same set, collected from the grocery store!!! Very pretty for Autumn!!!
ReplyDeleteMy mother had something similar! They certainly are perfect for the fall. What an adorable candle. You just want to pick it up and give it a bite!
ReplyDeleteHi, Martha! Isn't it wild how dishes we didn't think that much about...or perhaps even disliked...as kids can bring on such a flood of great memories? There's just something about things from our childhood (for those of us blessed to have good ones) that makes us feel all warm and fuzzy. I'm glad you were able to find these for your table...and at SUCH a bargain price! Somebody was sittin' on a gold mine and didn't even know it!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea to keep the centerpiece simple with all the other stuff going on. It really helps the eye to focus.
Have a great weekend, and I hope the weather there isn't a bear!
MARTHA! The dishes with wheat are so pretty and they add a lot of character. Lovely to see.
ReplyDeleteBlessings 2 u,
