It's time to set the table again for Tablescape Thursday! This week, I'm sure many of us will be setting the table for Father's Day. I don't know about you, but for me, it's always a bit of a challenge to come up with a masculine setting. This week I chose a hunting theme.
Now I have to tell you that I don't come from a hunting family, but I've always been attracted to the fox-hunting paintings. I love the beautiful English countryside setting (or even Virginia country as well - also known for foxhunting). The colors, the horses and dogs running...I've always loved the image.
And foxes are particularly beautiful animals even though I know they cause lots of destruction and problems for farmers. Probably the reason fox hunting ever got started in the first place.
I've set a place just for you.
Love this flatware - Treble Clef - it feels nice and heavy -- I like that.
These red napkins will always remind me of my dad -- he would almost always pick these for setting holiday tables and red's his favorite color.
So, are you ready for a hunt?
A hunting we will go.....
A hunting we will go...
Heigh-ho-the dairy-o....
....a hunting we will go!
A hunting we will go...
...a hunting we will go...
We'll catch a fox....
...put him in a box....
...and then we'll let him go!
While I don't come from a hunting family....
....I do come from a family that always roots for the underdog...or perhaps in this particular case, the underfox!
Talley-Ho! And Happy Father's Day!
My assistant says, "Hunting? Are you kidding me? How about you hunting me up some kibble mom!"
Be sure to check out all the tablescapes this week at Tablescape Thursday - graciously hosted week after week by the most talented tablescaper of us all...Susan at "Between Naps on the Porch".
See ya!
I LOVE the flatware - never seen anything like it before. Very unusual, but lovely theme this week. If I were doing that for my Dad I would need to work around a Garden theme. That would be much simpler, wouldn't it? *smile
ReplyDeleteA Huntin' we shall go!
ReplyDeleteLoved this tablescape you've created.
Think you did great and I'm glad to see this.
God bless and may you have a great week,
d
I love your hunting table accessories, plates, napkins, centerpiece and all. You definitely created a beautiful masculine table...Christine
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful. I think your father's day table is just perfect, hunters or not. A very masculine and elegant feel.
ReplyDeleteYour tablescape is wonderful and so appropriate for Father's Day. My husband's family were very involved in "The Hunt" years ago. I was happy to find out that they used a rag with a scent most of the time. I root for the fox too.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the weekend and you are invited to partake in a spot of tea when you ahve a moment.
Blessings,
Pam
Hi Martha! Oh, what a great Father's Day table! Love all of your hunting dishes - you even have glasses and a tablecloth to match! Very nice. Now, please take that cute little fox out from under the cloche so he can breathe! :)
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
shelia ;)
Oh I just love this!! What a great idea! I have been eying the Spode Woodland "Hunting Dogs" for a while, but kind of expensive, so I started looking for some vintage pieces with these scenes. Love it!!
ReplyDeleteThis was really a great tablescape. Everything matches so well and I love the fox...particularly in the cloche, so funny along with the words. This was a great idea for a Father's Day table. I think ours will be at a restaurant this year...poor hubby is home on his own:(
ReplyDeleteThanks for the nice comment today. It is hard going through mom's things, but I've found myself laughing too. She really loved to shop!

Great table for Father's Day! I did a double-take with the fox. At first I thought it was a real little dog!! HA! Love the linens, too!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun tablescape with that little Fox as the centerpiece and the dishes and glasses and cloth. I had to smile at your personal hunting dog who was sleeping:-)
ReplyDeleteJoyce

Hi Martha! I love your table. What a great theme. The plates are beautiful. And your centerpiece is so neat...I love that it is so clever and not generic. Unfortunately I get stuck on generic...not that I like it...I just wonder what to do! hahahaha....
ReplyDeleteYour table is great!
Blessings,
Debbie
What is that? I actually can hear the dogs barking! Big smile.
Martha, this has to be one of the most creative masculine tables I have seen...I love it! The salad plates are fabulous, have never seen any like them...and that fox is the cutest little guy.
ReplyDeleteI love your hunt plates and tablecloth. So perfect for a gentleman's table. I rode English style when I was a teen and went on one Hunt in Washington state. It was a drag hunt, so no foxes were harmed in any way. But it was fun running with the hounds. Thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteI love your table! The fox is so cute and the whole hunting theme is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteA clever theme and I love all of the fox hunting things! Some really neat items you have!

ReplyDeleteThanks for your sweet comment on my first TS!
OMG! This is the cutest post I have seen in awhile! I was so singing along with you! I just love your setting! I also am not part of a hunting family but love the image of fox hunting on horses. It seems to romantic to me for some reason. Weird huh! Anyway, love your silverware and your dishs! All the colors you chose work so well together too! It's fantastic!
ReplyDeleteHi Martha,
ReplyDeleteThis was a fun read! Your table definitely seems appropriate for Father's Day. I always feel sorry for the fox too, but the hunting accoutrements (love that word) are great, aren't they? ;)
Warmest regards,
Bill
Martha...this is wonderful! I love hunt theme anything...so I'm totally loving your table. It's funny, because the other day I was trying to figure out why I love hunt themed things so much...I don't know why since I could never actually hunt a fox. :-) I'm too softhearted, like you. I think I read they don't actually hunt a fox anymore. I think the dogs chase a scent or something...not sure how it works. Anyway, I adore those darling plates. You always have the best Father's Day tablescapes!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Susan
I love your plates. I have always liked the pictures with the hunt scences on them.
ReplyDeleteReally cute table.
Cute table setting and plates...so Virginia! Joan
ReplyDeleteLoved your post (very creative) and the table setting was wonderful. I've always liked that flatware. Is the tablecloth vintage?
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog, too. I'm hooked on TT.

ReplyDeleteWhat a great table! I love it! So masculine and fresh looking. I love the flatware and what a fabulous Father's Day tribute. You Rock girl!
ReplyDeleteLove fox hunting I was once a watcher.. but I like the masculine idea... and I love the flatware I wanted those spoons for years.. but money is tight... enjoy.. THe fox on the table scared me... LOL
ReplyDeleteWow a fox hunt feast! Looks great but here in the UK fox hunting is illegal and here's what it looks like today - you wouldn't want these on your tablecloth! http://tiny.cc/huntsabs
ReplyDeleteHi Friends,
ReplyDeleteWow! These are very attractive. The thought you have shared really appreciative. This is really interesting take on the concept.I never thought of it that way. And your tablescaping assistant is a cute! Thanks...
