It's been a very busy week here....so I hope a repeat tablescape is ok.... I love sunflowers during this "one foot in summer...one foot in fall season". Hope everyone's having a great week.What do you suppose it is that brings us back week after week with anticipation to Tablescape Thursday? Is it the enjoyment of the "creating" or the inspiration of seeing other tablescapes. Whatever keeps bringing us back, I want to thank Susan for hostessing this wonderful spot each week for us to enjoy!
Welcome to my early autumn table this week. We're just beginning to have a little bit of "crispness" to our early mornings around here. (I know because the "boys" get me up every morning at 6 for their pre-breakfast walk). The rest of the day is still warm and up in the 80's ....just a fleeting "hint" of fall for early risers.
I used two matching tablerunners as my placemats this week. These were from an Atlanta thrifting excersion with my DIL over a year ago.
You know I've set a place for you!
Fall plaid napkins found at Yankee Candle Store in Williamsburg last fall.
A layering of Sunflower salad plate (Marshall's Summer 2009) over Cream JCPenney ironstone (Goodwill a couple of years ago) over Nell Hill's woven trays/placemats (on line this summer).

Love the fresh flowers -- I don't often use flowers for my centerpieces, because I don't have a pretty cutting garden like many of you do -- mine are usually from the grocery store.
This basket is vintage, it was from my grandmother's house -- she kept it by her phone with pads and pencils and sissors, stamps and stationary in it.
One final look at our "Early Autumn" table. As I look back at last year, when I used these same dishes for a tablescape, I find that my style has changed somewhat over the past year. More mixture of patterns and textures. I enjoy seeing how other's have inspired me to try different things. Be sure to visit Susan at "Between Naps on the Porch" starting each Wednesday evening around 8 o'clock (Eastern Standard Time) or so for a whole variety of tablescapes. It's a real dish delight!

Martha, I'm a grocery-store-flower kind of girl, too. I have hydrangea in my yard, but that's about it as far as cutting blooms. Your centerpiece is perfect for your table today. The yellow is bright and draws you right in! Beautiful.

Hi Martha, I'm not sure exactly why I love tablescape thursday, but it is for some combination of reasons--like looking through a beautiful magazine and getting new ideas, and window shopping all in one! I have been looking at those Nell Hill's placemats and wondering if they are very bulky or uneven. They look great on your table! Linda

I love that you have that basket that belonged to your grandmother. I love your green glasses and those pretty chargers. My sunflowers came from Trader Joe's. Right now, not much is blooming at my house. Everything is waiting for cooler weather!

I remember when I was in high school and went to Mexico City and you could get a dozen roses for $2 and I thought that it would be the day when I could afford fresh flowers and now we can!!!! Your sunflowers are just breathtaking, they really steal the show - sorry to the rest of you flowers! I happened to take notice of the legs on your table too. How nice to use that basket. I love when use something that connects us to the past. Your best buy has to be the green goblets. I never have that kind of luck with glassware!

Hey, Martha! Fall temps have definitely invaded our area. It only got up to about 62 today. In the 40s last night!!! We'll rebound into the 80s next week, though, so I'm still holding out hope! Part of what brings me back to TT each week and excites me is when people are able to use the creative streak God gave them to create beautiful tables over and over again. As you noted, you used some of the same elements but the results show growth and expansion of knowledge from last year. That's what it's all about! It's about enjoying it, learning, growing, sharing. I am so glad we all have this incredible forum in which to do so. I don't have a cutting garden, either, and have to buy my flowers when I use them. (Sometimes my florist friends lend or give me stuff, though. LOVE it when that happens!!!) I hope that will change in a couple of years. I don't think I put any flowers at all on this week's tablescape. With our recent reversal of fortune I have found myself having to come up with lots of creative ways to make the table beautiful with minimal or no flowers. At first I was really upset about it, but now I'm learning to adjust. It's like I said...digging in deep and using the creativity we are blessed with! Your table is beautiful, Miss Martha, and I may very well make my way up there to steal those cool plates from you! :-) Have a great weekend!!!

ReplyDeleteI am back cause I realized that you asked me a question! The colors for my daughters wedding were similiar. The flowers were my green hydrangeas from my yard, yellow roses, orchids, Berries and I forget what else. (Those were the centerpieces). The bridesmaids wore chocolate brown dresses and the Maid of Honor wore copper. It was a beautiful wedding!
