It's been a very busy week here....so I hope a repeat tablescape is ok.... I love sunflowers during this "one foot in summer...one foot in fall season". Hope everyone's having a great week.
What do you suppose it is that brings us back week after week with anticipation to Tablescape Thursday? Is it the enjoyment of the "creating" or the inspiration of seeing other tablescapes. Whatever keeps bringing us back, I want to thank Susan for hostessing this wonderful spot each week for us to enjoy!
Welcome to my early autumn table this week. We're just beginning to have a little bit of "crispness" to our early mornings around here. (I know because the "boys" get me up every morning at 6 for their pre-breakfast walk). The rest of the day is still warm and up in the 80's ....just a fleeting "hint" of fall for early risers.
I used two matching tablerunners as my placemats this week. These were from an Atlanta thrifting excersion with my DIL over a year ago.
You know I've set a place for you!
Fall plaid napkins found at Yankee Candle Store in Williamsburg last fall.
A layering of Sunflower salad plate (Marshall's Summer 2009) over Cream JCPenney ironstone (Goodwill a couple of years ago) over Nell Hill's woven trays/placemats (on line this summer).

Love the fresh flowers -- I don't often use flowers for my centerpieces, because I don't have a pretty cutting garden like many of you do -- mine are usually from the grocery store.
This basket is vintage, it was from my grandmother's house -- she kept it by her phone with pads and pencils and sissors, stamps and stationary in it.
One final look at our "Early Autumn" table. As I look back at last year, when I used these same dishes for a tablescape, I find that my style has changed somewhat over the past year. More mixture of patterns and textures. I enjoy seeing how other's have inspired me to try different things.
Be sure to visit Susan at "Between Naps on the Porch" starting each Wednesday evening around 8 o'clock (Eastern Standard Time) or so for a whole variety of tablescapes. It's a real dish delight!
See ya!
Martha,
ReplyDeleteYour tablescape is beautiful! I love all the sunflowers ... the flowers in you grandmother's basket and the plates.
All the textures you have used are so pretty!
Hugs,
Donna
Hi Martha! Oh, I love your pretty table. The centerpiece is so pretty and I love those baskety place mats you're using. Your scapes just get better and better.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you'll be joining my party! :)

Martha, I'm a grocery-store-flower kind of girl, too. I have hydrangea in my yard, but that's about it as far as cutting blooms. Your centerpiece is perfect for your table today. The yellow is bright and draws you right in! Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLove your early Autumn table. A taste of fall with a dash of summer, perfect.
ReplyDeleteMartha I just love your early Autumn Table!! I love sunflowers and I just adore your plates and centrepiece. I think you did a lovely job of setting this table! You're very talented at this! xxoo
ReplyDeleteVery pretty, the cute sunflowers in the baskets are gorgeous, beautiful plates too!
ReplyDeleteLove the sunflower dishes. It's almost time for me to start thinking fall too, but hard to do when the days are still hovering in the 90's.. Your combination is wonderful. I love sunflowers a whole bunch!!!
ReplyDeleteYour table is beautiful!! I just love sunflowers!!
ReplyDeleteLove the sunflowers-so perfect for this time of year!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely fall table. I so look forward to coming and seeing what you have done for the week. Makes my whole day.
ReplyDeleteSunflowers are such happy flowers aren't they? I love the plates and how special to use a basket with memories. I haven't gone back to look at old tablescapes...I should do that.
ReplyDeleteOh so pretty, Martha! I love the sunflower plates a lot...Christine
ReplyDeleteI love that vintage basket used for that centerpiece. It's my (second)favorite part next to the charger/placemats with the napkin sticking out the side.
ReplyDeleteI don't have access to any decent fresh flowers right now either so it's grocery store for me too! Your grocery store centerpiece just happy and perfect in that basket!
Hi Martha, I'm not sure exactly why I love tablescape thursday, but it is for some combination of reasons--like looking through a beautiful magazine and getting new ideas, and window shopping all in one! I have been looking at those Nell Hill's placemats and wondering if they are very bulky or uneven. They look great on your table! Linda
ReplyDeleteWonderful Martha! I really like your table and everything you put together for your tablescape!
ReplyDeleteReally nice to look at! Love the sunflower plates! This is all scaled so nicely for four. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI just love the weather. It is absolutely perfect right now. These sunflowers are just the happiest fall item there is. I love them on the table. They are so welcoming too. I would just love the plates too. They are a find.
ReplyDeleteI think it is a combination of both...inspiration that leads us to want to be creative that makes us appreciate TT and look forward to it each week! Your sunflower centerpiece is so cheery and really does say "early autumn". The plates are a perfect match! I wish I could find some nice green glassware like yours at our Thrift Store! The Nell Hill chargers add a wonderful texture to your 'scape.
ReplyDeleteDD
This is just beautiful! I love the sunflowers and the plaid napkins match the setting so well-enjoy!
ReplyDeleteLove this! The tablescape is beautiful! I'm new here and so happy to find your great blog filled with so many beautiful things!
ReplyDeleteI love your Early Autumn tablescape! The mornings are just beginning to feel cool here, too. Your floral centerpiece is just gorgeous, and I love how the colors in those plaid napkins pull together the whole table. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful late summer/early autumn table...the sunflower plates are so pretty...need to find some, seeing I live in the Sunflower State! The napkins and GW glassware really complements your dishes. Your centerpiece looks gorgeous in your grandmother's stationery basket. Have a great weekend, Martha!
ReplyDeleteMartha,
ReplyDeleteYour table is gorgeous! Love every detail. The colors, the flowers, the rustic chargers, and the flatware. So very pretty. Thanks for stopping by.
Sherry
Beautiful! And the shear mention of Williamsburg has me pining to visit.
ReplyDeleteBest,
Bonnie
Martha,
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful. Love your dishes and flowers.
Carol
This is just perfect for early fall! The rustic chargers and the plaid napkins and the sunflowers on the plates and in the centerpiece -- so fabulous together! I love to see all the amazing tablescapes each week, and I enjoy all the ideas I get from everyone. And what a fun group we are!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty Martha. Sunflowers just give everything such a happy look. Love the way you criss-crossed the runners, and I really want to get some of those woven chargers from Nell Hill's (I'm still looking for a place to store them though!). All of the textures on this table are wonderful. laurie
ReplyDeleteSunflowers. I love them any way they are used. And to think you found dishes as well. Perfect combination for the early fall.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful table and fall is in the air with this tablescape, most definitely. The colors are beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteHi Martha,
ReplyDeleteThat's a beauty. Love how you used the trays with the plaid napkin inserted, very Nell Hill!
Now I think I will go look through her book I bought last year and never really devoured!
Love those sunflower plates, and the fresh sunflower centerpiece is very pretty! I like the table runners, and the green goblets! I like it all!!
ReplyDeleteKatherine
I like you use of the criss-crossed table runners...very effective. Don't you love it every time that you get to use your grandmothers basket. It's wonderful in your tablescape. Hey....my flowers are almost always from the grocery store...I think of it as my personal contribution to stimulating the economy! Thank you for sharing your charming design. Cherry Kay
ReplyDeleteI think we were in the same mood this week. My tablescape has a lot of the same elements. I really like your table runners used that way. I love that you have that basket that belonged to your grandmother. I love your green glasses and those pretty chargers. My sunflowers came from Trader Joe's. Right now, not much is blooming at my house. Everything is waiting for cooler weather!
ReplyDeleteLove the sunflower plates and the pretty cream ones! Your table is very pretty. Thank you for sharing with us.
ReplyDeleteEverything looks so pretty! I especially love those napkins. And your floral centerpiece looks beautiful. I love fresh flowers. Now I am off to visit one more tablescape below! :)
ReplyDeleteBest,
Gloria
Love your sunflower dishes and your neat chargers. Nothing is better than fresh flowers and yours are great. I've never bought fresh sunflowers before and I think I will now. You have inspired me.
ReplyDeleteOh no. Where's my comment?
ReplyDeleteDarn! I hate when that happens! I love your actual table. What beautiful turned legs! And those plates...and the chargers...and how clever you are to use two runners for four place settings. I am totally going to steal this neat idea!
ReplyDeleteThe first plates we bought after we were married were covered in sunflowers. Oh how I loved those plates! Thanks for the reminder.
ReplyDeleteI am with you on grocery store flowers and isn't it wonderful that we have them available now. I remember when I was in high school and went to Mexico City and you could get a dozen roses for $2 and I thought that it would be the day when I could afford fresh flowers and now we can!!!! Your sunflowers are just breathtaking, they really steal the show - sorry to the rest of you flowers! I happened to take notice of the legs on your table too. So glad you showed them, they are magnificent!
ReplyDeleteI'm with Jacqueline.. great legs! Love your runners and I truly love those sunflower plates.. Your table is very fallish and I falled right into love with it! xo marlis - glad you are the keeper of the basket.. love the memories..
ReplyDeleteHas anyone counted the number of different sunflower dishes used this week? They are all so beautiful and different. I also have some that I have yet to see here. How nice to use that basket. I love when use something that connects us to the past. Your best buy has to be the green goblets. I never have that kind of luck with glassware!
ReplyDeleteHi Martha! Well, with a table this pretty it's worth a repeat! I love those pretty runners and you always use the prettiest dishes!
ReplyDeleteI know how busy our weeks can get sometimes! I've had one of those kinds of weeks too! :)
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
I still love it a year later, Martha!
ReplyDeleteYou can post this as many times as you want, Martha. It's beautiful and just perfect for the season...Christine
ReplyDeleteLOVE this!!! I love the layers/textures of plates/chargers.....and the sunflowers and those napkins!!!!
ReplyDeleteGORGEOUS!!!
Hugs,
Lana
Any table with sunflowers is going to work for me. Last night we had dinner with friends and she had sunflowersnas big as your head from ger garden!
ReplyDeleteI haven't met a sunflower that I didn't love! Yesterday, I drove by a sunflower field, and even though there was "droopy heads", I smiled. Beautiful tablescape! I also did a sunflower theme this week :-)
ReplyDeleteI love your design here! The two runners criss crossing on a round table gives me inspiration! The chargers are awesome and so are the plates! Love the sunflowers and the plaid napkins! Fall is definitely setting in here. We might have a hard freeze tonight. The trees will start changing soon. I love the fall and hope to enjoy every minute of it!
ReplyDeleteI love posts from the past..many times, I missed them the first time around. ;)
ReplyDeleteI don't have a cutting garden, either. I do have pretty roses that I cut and bring inside..that is when we aren't having a drought and the roses won't bloom. :)
Your table is adorable. Love your dishes and the flowers are beautiful.
xo bj
Martha, so pretty! I love the sunflower plates. Your entire table is so cheerful and inviting.
ReplyDeleteBarb

ReplyDeleteMartha -- I love sunflowers for the fall. The plates are so pretty and I love the green glasses as well as the bamboo trays. Joni
ReplyDeleteLike I said last year, it is just lovely!
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed seeing it again.
Hey, Martha! Fall temps have definitely invaded our area. It only got up to about 62 today. In the 40s last night!!! We'll rebound into the 80s next week, though, so I'm still holding out hope! Part of what brings me back to TT each week and excites me is when people are able to use the creative streak God gave them to create beautiful tables over and over again. As you noted, you used some of the same elements but the results show growth and expansion of knowledge from last year. That's what it's all about! It's about enjoying it, learning, growing, sharing. I am so glad we all have this incredible forum in which to do so. I don't have a cutting garden, either, and have to buy my flowers when I use them. (Sometimes my florist friends lend or give me stuff, though. LOVE it when that happens!!!) I hope that will change in a couple of years. I don't think I put any flowers at all on this week's tablescape. With our recent reversal of fortune I have found myself having to come up with lots of creative ways to make the table beautiful with minimal or no flowers. At first I was really upset about it, but now I'm learning to adjust. It's like I said...digging in deep and using the creativity we are blessed with! Your table is beautiful, Miss Martha, and I may very well make my way up there to steal those cool plates from you! :-) Have a great weekend!!!
ReplyDeleteHI Martha! So glad you reposted this as I missed it last time! I have been away for 2 days so just getting to see all the tables a TT! What inspiration is out there! I love your plates and of course the fresh flowers! I also have the same flatware! XO, Pinky
ReplyDeleteI love your dishes...and if you used them last year, I hope you use them next year. They are adorable!! I don't have a cutting garden either...but my daughters do...however... :)
ReplyDeleteperhaps one day I will have my own flowers. I hope so.
Your table is precious as always.
Fantastic fall table! Everything looks just stunning. Those flowers are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteHope to see you on my blog:)
Martha, This time of year Sunflowers are a beautiful sight to see as they bloom out in the fields. Our state flower is the sunflower!
ReplyDeleteLOVE your theme.
You have created a lovely tablescape!!!
God bless,
d
1. Thank you so much for the sweet comment on my blog!
ReplyDelete2. You have one of the prettiest blogs I've seen yet!
3. And now for your tablescape! Silk sunflowers have definitely improved over the years, but they are no match for the real thing! And, I love the combination of florals and plaids, so your napkins are perfect! How wonderful that you have your grandmother's basket and you are using it instead of keeping it packed away. Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful table!
Hi Martha! I love the sunflowers, such a perfect time of year for them! I just finished pictures of a sunflower table, too, but I think I'm going to re-do and take them over, not exactly pleased with the final outcome. I love the plaid napkins you used, and your centerpiece basket is not only beautiful but so meaningful, I'm sure! The plates are amazing! Thanks for visiting with me and your kind comments.
ReplyDeleteI am back cause I realized that you asked me a question! The colors for my daughters wedding were similiar. The flowers were my green hydrangeas from my yard, yellow roses, orchids, Berries and I forget what else. (Those were the centerpieces). The bridesmaids wore chocolate brown dresses and the Maid of Honor wore copper. It was a beautiful wedding!
ReplyDeleteHi sweetie, thank you for swinging in to see Mary Carol's Fall Open House Part 1, part 2 is scheduled to post today, I hope folks aren't getting bored with it. I had a ball that day, so many ideas running through my p-sized brain. lol. I hope you're having a great Sunday. hugs ~lynne~
