Tablescape Thursday - paper placesettings

It's Tablescape Thursday once again -- time to decide what to bring to the cyber table this week. A few weeks ago, I did a couple of thrifty Christmas tablescapes using paper plates. That seemed to spark some interest for some of you....so this week I'm showing some of the other paper plates I've used on previous Tablescape Thursdays for those of you who are looking for a thrifty way to set the table or are running out of room for new dishes.

Perhaps you'll remember this setting and the next one from just a few weeks ago.

Pretty dinner sized paper plates can be found at any number of stores ...I've found them at Kohls, Marshalls, Tuesday Morning, Target, Hallmark and specialty stores. Clear glass dinner plates (and salad plates too) are an inexpensive item at Walmart -- They have round and square glass plates.

Both of these plates have a tropical look -- and I believe they both came from Target.

Caspari has some beautiful patterns -- these were found at a beach boutique.

A couple of fall designs -- one set came from the grocery store.

You can also find endless other possibilities for designs:
Fall leaves.....

....peacock feathers were used in a Halloween tablescape.

....Happy New Year confetti.....I think you could use pressed flowers...ferns.....valentines... photos.....Whatever you can imagine "under glass"! I would love to see your creations too.

This is week #2 of my paperwhites that I planted on New Years Day ... one bulb has really taken off.

Hope you'll visit Susan at "Between Naps on the Porch" to see what everyone's bringing to the table this week.

See ya!

  9. I have said it before, this is just brilliant! I love the tropical ones and then you set them with all the accoutrements just like fine china and if you didn't tell me they were paper I would never know! I love the one you got at the beach shop too with the gorgeous orange charger under it. Fun, fun, fun! This one, especially those tropical ones made me smile on a yucky gray day! Have fun looking at all the great tablescapes.

  10. Martha, I loved seeing these! You have found some wonderful paper plates, and these really do make cute tablescapes. I bought some with palm trees last summer, and I promptly misplaced them. I think the ended up going to our storage, and I really, really want to use them. They were so cute. Found them at Home Goods.

Happy Tablescape Thursday to you! I'm having a drawing which I forgot to say on my linky, LOL, but I wanted you to know about it. I'm giving multiple chances to win some china (or paper china), your choice if you win! :-)

    XO,

    Sheila

  11. You know, Martha, I never think about paper plates, probably because I'm too lazy to look for them. That just might change as you have shown some most creative ways to use them.

  13. I just love how creative you can be with this. Until reading here, I wouldn't have thought to do it. I missed out on years of festive fun while the girls were growing.

My favorite of these is the one with the florals set against the orange plate. That's fabulous.

Glad to see your paperwhites are thriving, too!!! Looking forward to seeing them fully grown! Thanks for stopping by my place earlier. 17. Great idea and looks fantastic! I do understand the "running out of room for dishes" dilemma:@)

  18. I cannot believe those were paper plates!! They are gorgeous! You've inspired me for sure. This past holiday season I did forego the china in favor of some cute melamine plates I found at Walmart. So much easier to just throw in the dishwasher. I'm so over the whole hand-washing thing. I honestly thing it's becoming a thing of the past to use good china. I see a lot of people selling them on Craig's List.

  27. I just saw some beautiful paper goods at two of the stores I shopped today (yes...I've been a bad girl!), and I thought of you and what a great job you do with it! You have inspired me to give it a try. I did one post back in September using paper products, but I haven't been brave enough to try again. I will, though, thanks to your inspiration! See ya later!!!

  28. This is such a wonderful tip! Using paper plates has alwayas been only for very casual affairs in my house, but with the clear dishes over them - well I think they may be used a lot more around here - now I just have to find some! Thanks for sharing!

  30. I've seen a couple of your comments that make me think that the writer just looked at the pictures and didn't read your text. I don't think that they realized that you used paper plates...they think that you have a large collection of unique china patterns. High praise, indeed. Congratulations on encouraging so many to set a lovely welcoming table...china or no china. Ah the value of a simple glass plate! Thank your for sharing your charming designs and for stopping by my post. Cherry Kay

  31. Very pretty, Martha! Such a lovely selection of paper plates. I have service for over 100 of glass plates from when I did catering, and using them pretty paper underneath would be a good idea to make them pop a bit!

  32. OK that is it, I am finding and buying some glass plates! I saw your post the first time around and have been considering doing this since, now I am convinced. This is wonderful.

  35. Loved all your paper tablescapes. My fav was the pink and orange with big chrysanthamums. All of them made nice tablescapes tho. Good idea about the clear plates, cause it does give you a lot of new options. I just put the real plates underneath to make them sturdy, then just pitched those babies out!! lol
Course, it was just the family.
I think there is a time and place for every kind of table, and so nice that we have so many great choices to choose from!
    Blessings hon, Nellie

  37. I have no problems at all using the disposable ones. I try not to contribute to the landfill very often. However, when I am doing the clean up after my "gang" has been here, they are a wonderful thing to have. :)
    Thanks for stopping by.
