Farmers Market Tablescape

I've been using this old Lang calendar for tablescape inspirations....and this was the picture from June.  It reminds me of our weekly trip during the summer months to the local vegetable stand.  So I've named this tablescape the "Farmers Market" table.

So, welcome to the table set for a fresh from the garden (or veggie stand) supper.

I found this cabbage leaf set of bowls and dishes a couple of years ago at a local antique/thrift store.  They had a few little chips here and there....nothing that a little dab of green nail polish didn't cover up.

Here's my vegetable centerpiece....who says a centerpiece can only contain flowers and candles?   Not me!

Now you just know you would have to serve a salad at this table!

Actually, I have to confess that a few things in the basket are faux - but mostly everything is real, and much of it will go into a salad this evening.

Let's peel the layers of dishes....starting with the salad bowl....

....cabbage leaf underplate....

white Gibson dinnerplate.....

 basketweave chargers......

...flatwear from Target a few years ago....loved these and they were purchase by the piece for 99 cents.

I found the green goblets a few years ago at Goodwill.

I can't even remember wher I found the green cloth napkins many years ago....the tablecloth was a Goodwill find.

I love the bounty of fresh vegetables from the summer!  Can't wait until the Hanover tomatoes are in their peak here soon.....I'll be cooking up a tomatoe pie soon!

See ya.....and remember to eat your veggies!

This week I'm joining Tablescape Thursday with Susan of Between Naps on the Porch.

  1. Martha, you have gotten your money's worth out of that calendar! I love seeing how you've been inspired by the calendar art. Great idea about the farmers' market table! The leaf bowls and plates are just perfect, and the tablecloth and napkins lend a wonderful picnic feel. We've been enjoying the bounty from our farmers' market, too.

  2. Beautiful table Martha! Oh how I love fresh veggies and fruits! I've been on a cantaloupe "kick" this summer. They taste so sweet this year. We have a wonderful farmer's market about 20 minutes from us, and it is the epitome of fresh! A lot of the food is grown there. Hope you enjoyed your salad! Have a great weekend.

  3. I can't tell which are real and which are faux in the basket. Wow...you got some really realistic stuff!!! Great centerpiece, Martha! Perfect for summer! I never thought green nail polish would have a good purpose in this life, but now I see that it does!!! That is so funny! I don't know that I would have thought of that, but it is very, very clever!!! The cabbage plates and bowls are really terrific. I like the coloring. Very nice table all around!!!!!! Enjoy your weekend!

  4. Your cabbage plates are just fabulous. Love how delicate they are. I use a copic marker and then a dab of a product called glossy accents to fix my cabbage dings. I love using veggies and things on a table. It brings everything back down to earth.. and I love that. I love the green and white tablecloth and the napkins too. Your goblets are just perfect.. it all is.. be blessed, xo marlis

  6. Martha, I've never seen such pretty cabbage plates and bowls. The green color is so light and almost translucent. I would never have thought to use nail polish to cover the chips! Your basket of garden goodies is a perfect centerpiece. I've always wanted some of those basketweave chargers, but I'm too tight to pay full price for them. I'm sure they'll be out of style by the time I find some on sale, but that won't bother me. I'll buy and use them anyway. laurie

  10. I just love your Nature's Bounty table! Your centerpiece reminds me of stopping at the farmer's roadside stands on the way home from Monterey. What a pretty shade of green in the tablecloth and napkins! Love the leaf plates and bowls, and the handled rattan chargers are just perfect for it.
