Tropical Tablescape

It's been awhile since I've posted, but I'm drawn back to what I love......tablescaping.  Even though Fall is fast approaching and we are getting a hint of autumn in the air......I've decided to set a tropical inspired table today......won't you join me?



 

I found this elephant this weekend at a thrift/home consignment shop and I knew he would be just right for the tablesetting I had in mind.

 

Not only was he the perfect centerpiece.....he was just the right colors as well!

 

I brought out my tropical palm candle sticks.......and ended up smashing one of the globes when I got distracted and it tumbled over.  But hopefully, I will find another globe soon to fit.  In the meantime, I decided to use them anyway.

Paper bamboo napkins in green water goblets.

 

A layering of the dishes --- on top we have a creamy dish that's a little ruffled......

and next a heavy green glass plate that has olives etched into the design......
 

....and our last dish is my "workhorse" creamy white dinner plate from a set I found at Goodwill about 5-6 years ago.

Aren't these darling placemats?  I treated myself to a set for my birthday back in June.


 

And what could go more perfectly with bamboo napkins....than bamboo flatware?


 

Shades of greens cloth napkins......I know I have two napkins here.....two napkin "rule" at my house.....cloth for your lap to protect your clothing.....paper for your mouth to protect my cloth napkins!

About a month ago we had a terrible storm that put a tree branch though my dining room window and little bits of glass went all over my carpet --- I worked and worked, but still kept finding bits of glass......well with dogs and grandchildren it just seemed too risky so I decided it was time to replace the carpet I already had.....that I never liked anyway....this is in wonderful shades of chocolate, tan and grey......and I hope to paint the room a soft warm grey next spring....I've been talking about doing that for years, but this seems to press me onward!

Thank you so much for all the many kind comments to me after my father passed away in July.  That was my last post and I am slowly getting back to finding time to visit and post once again.

Farmers Market Tablescape

 I've been using this old Lang calendar for tablescape inspirations....and this was the picture from June.  It reminds me of our weekly trip during the summer months to the local vegetable stand.  So I've named this tablescape the "Farmers Market" table.

So, welcome to the table set for a fresh from the garden (or veggie stand) supper.

 I found this cabbage leaf set of bowls and dishes a couple of years ago at a local antique/thrift store.  They had a few little chips here and there....nothing that a little dab of green nail polish didn't cover up.

Here's my vegetable centerpiece....who says a centerpiece can only contain flowers and candles?   Not me!

 Now you just know you would have to serve a salad at this table!

Actually, I have to confess that a few things in the basket are faux - but mostly everything is real, and much of it will go into a salad this evening.

 I found the green goblets a few years ago at Goodwill.

 I can't even remember wher I found the green cloth napkins many years ago....the tablecloth was a Goodwill find.

I love the bounty of fresh vegetables from the summer!  Can't wait until the Hanover tomatoes are in their peak here soon.....I'll be cooking up a tomatoe pie soon!

A Winter Walk in the Woods - Tablescape

It's Tablescape Thursday again and this week I've set my table for a Winter's Walk in the Woods.

I've seen so many of you use pinecones as placecard holders this year. What a fun idea for our winter tables.



I found these pinecone candle holders this fall at one of my favorite antique/thrift stores "Thru The Garden Gate".



On our walk we may just see a rabbit.....



....or two.



A tan linen tablecloth with Nell Hill woven chargers, Target faux ivory flatware, and my snow white dishes.



Green Jamestown goblets...I've found a complete set of eight gathered over the past two years from Goodwill and thrift stores.



I can't remember where I found these green cloth napkins tucked into the handle of my chargers.....probably Tuesday Morning or Marshall's.

Tablescape Thursday - St. Patrick's Dinner

It's Tablescape Thursday again -- and this week EVERBODY's Irish!


Our daughter's birthday was Monday and she always requests a corned beef and cabbage dinner since St. Patrick's day is right around the corner. These pictures may seem a little more random than usual because they were taken quickly after work before everyone arrived for the birthday celebration.



The centerpiece was a pot of "shamrocks" from the grocery store and a platter of David Winter cottages set on the "greenery" of dried split peas. And a few gold coins mixed in.









I gave one of these to my friend Jane for her March birthday too and she's got a bloom on hers. I'll be happy if I can just keep mine alive.



















I found a couple of "Partylite" sheep last year around this time at two different thrift stores. They reminded me of the Irish countryside so they joined the table too.




















All four of my grandgirls got some green to wear for St. Patrick's day. These were for the twins. My other two girls got theirs in the mail last week. We'll be seeing them soon (but after St. Patrick's day)















I found these little Irish cottage plates at Marshall's a couple of years ago at an after Christmas sale --- thought they were perfect for St. Patrick's. The napkins were from Kohl's a couple of years ago. White Gibson dinner plates from Big Lot's....thanks to Gollum for sending us all there!











I love using these large cabbage leaves for St. Patrick's and Easter placemats. These were from a craft store.















The girl's also got to take home their St. Patrick's cups to have for this week too --- perhaps they'll be drinking green milk! These came from Target this year. They loved the floating shamrocks.

I love Irish soda bread -- always good for toast the next day as well.















Green goblets would be perfect for green beer.....but we just had water in ours. (suits me....I don't like beer)

Our birthday girl also won some awards this weekend at a state Nursing Student competition. Now she'll get the chance to compete in a national competition in California. Go Katy!
