Weekend treasures

The past few weeks I've neglected to post my weekend treasures. Almost every week I pop into the local Good Will or one of the thrift/antique stores for treasure hunting.



Found these two cute fat birds at Goodwill a couple of weeks ago.


The price was right!


They've found a home this Summer on my sideboard.


This is a floral arrangement I made for the table at a reception for my parents 50th Wedding Anniversary almost 7 years ago. Soon it will be time to "dress" the sideboard for Fall.



I guess I've had quite the case of "Bird Brain" lately -- this foursome I found last weekend at a local antique store.


I think they'll be cute napkin rings for a tropical tablescape.


I also got these octagonal salad plates at the same time.


I just knew they'd be perfect with my Penney's plates I found a couple of years ago at Good Will.


A few weeks back I also found this glass and silver based salad bowl at Good Will. (This was hard to photograph well.)


I wanted to show you how thick the glass is here.


This week I found this little creamer with the roses.


I just couldn't get a good picture up close without that shadow unless I got my fingers into the shot.

Tablescape Thursday - In the "garden"

Today is Tablescape Thursday hosted by Susan of "Between Naps On The Porch" - she always has the most amazing tablescapes and invites us to join in the fun. This Summer I've really enjoyed seeing all the beautiful garden spots many of my fellow bloggers have. They've made some beautiful retreats in their own backyards. I don't have a lovely spot anywhere in my backyard - so I've created a "garden spot" on my table this week.

A bird's eye view of the garden. I love this tablecloth I found a few weeks ago at Goodwill for $2 -- not a spot nor a hole anywhere!


Looks like we may have to pay a "treat toll" to get into the garden. Our gatekeeper is a friendly fella.


We have so many flowers in our pretend garden that we've got a whole wheelbarrow full!


Looks like the Target birdies are enjoying our little garden.


And this little guy certainly knows how to spend the "dog days" of Summer ... napping on his little garden bench.


Of course we have a pretty birdbath in the garden too. All the items for this centerpiece were found in thrift/antique stores or Goodwill (except the Target birdies)


I used two different sets of dishes for this tablescape. The first placesetting has our floral napkin (these are fingertip towels I got over 24 years ago in San Francisco). The napkin rings were a find this Spring in a local antique shop. My bamboo flatware from Marshalls.


These little green salad plates I found at Goodwill this past March when I was looking for some green plates for a St. Patrick's day dinner. My charger/dinner plate is from the Big Lot's Gibson collection.

These are the Gibson salad plates I found on eBay a few weeks ago. Which do you prefer? Green or pink?


These are my everyday Libby glasses I've had for years. The floral paper napkins (my two napkin rule) were a hostess gift from one of my guests at the "Granny Gathering" I had last month. Perfect for our garden spot.


Looks like nightfall on our garden.


And all the stars are twinkling.


Shhhhhh! Our little friend is still napping in the moonlight.

Nana in Atlanta comes home

I'm back from my week in Atlanta playing with my oldest (Stella Grace) and newest (Molly Rose) grandgirls. What a fun and exhausting week!

Stella Grace is three and has plenty of smiles for Nana. She knows how to put some fun in everyday.

First you read lots and lots of books. Nana reads some to you and you read some to Nana.


You take your naps with a mermaid.


While you're outside, you practice all your dance moves.


So you can still be dancing late into the night.

Take an afternoon tea break.


It's "most delicous!"


You make sure you're looking cool in your shades as you drive your fancy car.


And when you're three you understand why wearing sunglasses "helps you to see the T.V. better."


You sometimes have to share Daddy's lap with your baby sister Molly Rose.

The first thing Stella Grace does each morning is check on Molly Rose.

This is good! Why didn't anybody tell us about this yummy stuff? Who needs those old spinach and carrots?



Birthdays are fun -- can we do this everyday?
