I'm smitten with smocking!

This is a post from last week, but it sure seems to fit right in!

Do you remember the song that Julie Andrews sings in "Sound of Music" about her favorite things? "Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes"....well just change the lyrics to "Girls in smocked dresses" for me. I love little smocked dresses -- especially for spring! So with four little grandgirls ages 3 yrs to 9 months....I certainly have had fun on my "smock hunt"!

These two sweet little blue dresses are being sent to Stella (3 yrs.) and her sister Molly (9 mos.) next week.

Little sister dress.

Big sister dress.

My grandmother used to send matching dresses to my sister and me when we were little -- I still remember the excitement of opening a package from Granny and Poppy!

These are the dresses I found for the twins...Keelyn and Kendall (19 mos.)

I just love the little birds and birdhouses for Spring!

Yes, I'm a sucker for smocking! *sigh*

  2. I LOVE those. I looked for them for my four daughters too and was thrilled when I found them. I remember back when there were few stores around and Sears carried a line of little dresses with lots of smocking. Especially when they have tiny birdies on them..sooo sweet.

  4. You should be here in the South, Martha. Everyone is CRAZY for smocking here. Some girls wear their smocked-frocks till they almost have boobs. LOL And they wear them with a HUGE bow in their hair...and I've seen a few little boys with smocked white shirts...the dresses are GORGEOUS, BTW!

  8. I learned how to smock when I was pregnant with my middle son. Third child was a boy as well, so I didn't get to smock for long. I need to take it up again now that I have two granddaughters.

  9. Love the dresses. When I was pregnant with Kat (now 30)...I smocked like a fool. I loved it. I still have her little dresses stored in my cedar chest for her daughter one day. I knew we were kindred spirits...wow!

  10. I dont have any children but I have lots of nieces. I was always the "Fav" aunt as I loved smocking on dresses and have bought my share of them. Now all the girls have turned into women and have their own little girls, and the dresses are still being bought. But not for long as youngest girl has found Hannah Montana to be her style. These dresses are beautiful.

  19. Theres nothing sweeter on baby apparel than smocking. I make babies and rarely do I find any smocked dresses for them. I fear smocking is becoming a thing of the past which is a such a shame.

  23. Hi Martha! These precious dresses take me back- my sister in law got me into Polly Flinders back in the day (one of your other commenters mentioned PF too!) We both had 2 girls about the same ages- nearly 30 years ago! They are timeless- wish I would have kept some of them- if I get any grandgirls I may have to learn how to do it! (I think my son had a smocked baby gown or two too!)
